I've seen some stores where there is a collate set of sizes apart from the ordinary 1x, 2x and 3x sizes. What is the difference between an so so X/2X/3X and a "big" version of the respective size?

I'd upon more likely to be longer as well (though that would often be referred to as "tall" in sizing rather than "big"). In some cases they might be an even extraordinary category where each x, 2x, 3x is larger than normal all around.
